It’s also a great place for outdoor activities Bentonville_Hikinglike hiking, biking, and horseback riding. With so many great places in and around Bentonville, it can be difficult to decide what to do. Here’s a list of some of our favorite outdoor activities in the area.

1. Mountain Biking at Upper Buffalo Mountain

For those who like mountain biking, the 40 miles of singletrack here are perfect. The paths wind through the Ozark National Forest and offer great views, steep climbs, swift descents, and several creek crossings. The Fire Tower Loop is 3.5 miles long and provides a thrilling descent while the Azalea Falls Trail is one of the best in the state.

This ride is one of just four International Mountain Bicycling Association rated rides in the state of Arkansas!

2. Hiking, Biking, Hunting, or Horseback Riding at Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area

Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area is Arkansas’s largest state park. With 12,054 acres, the park offers a 52-mile trail system which is great for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. In the park, there’s also an outdoor shooting range and an interactive visitor center. The park is also the only state park in Arkansas which permits regulated hunting.

Visitors can take the Historic Van Winkle Trail, the Pigeon Roost Trail, the Hidden Diversity Trail, the Shaddox Hollow Nature Trail, or the Monument Trails. For hikers planning to stay overnight, there are primitive campsites with tent sites and metal grills throughout the park. These are first-come, first-serve, and people planning on staying must sign-in at the trailhead.

3. Biking the Slaughter Pen Hollow Trail

This multi-use trail was originally designed with mountain bikers in mind, so it’s perfect for bikers of every ability. The trails are well-maintained and span around 20 miles and traverse beautiful forests. The trail features downhill trails, a jump park, log rides, and skinnies. Every year, the Slaughter Pen Hollow Trail also hosts the Slaughter Pen Jam, one of the top bike events in the state.

4. Visiting War Eagle Cavern

War Eagle Cavern is home to 100,000 bats and is the largest cavern entrance in Arkansas. In addition to the cavern, there are several nature trails that make great hikes, great views of Beaver Lake, the Moonshiners’ Mystery Shack, and the Lost in the Woods Maze.

War Eagle Cavern also offers the Spelunker Tour for those who want an underground adventure. Visitors can explore the cave system with a guide in the Wild Cavern Tours and make their way through unconditioned passages to see amazing formations, cave wildlife, and gigantic domes as well as a 100-foot tall underground canyon.
