1. Lake Bentonville
The 10-acre lake is just like a big farm dam with a flat muddy bottom. It’s one of the Family and Community Fishing locations stocked by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. The average depth is between six and ten feet. Because the water is muddy and prevents sunlight from penetrating, the lake has no aquatic vegetation. Yet, it’s an excellent spot to hook catfish from the banks under the willows right around the lake.
The lake is open for rod and pole fishing and electric trolling motors only. If you reel in largemouth bass, you have to release it immediately. The daily catfish limit is three, trout is five, and bream is 25. There is also crappie, grass carp, redear sunfish, warmouth, and bluegill in the lake.
2. Lake Atalanta
Just nine miles away, the 30-acre Lake Atalanta offers anglers nearly two miles of shoreline and six fishing piers. During the summer months, fishermen flock to the lake to catch trout. The lake also holds smallmouth and largemouth bass, catfish, crappie, and walleye.
The daily limit for catfish and trout is five. You are only permitted to fish with a rod or pole from the shore or from a boat. Only non-motorized boats such as canoes, kayaks, and paddleboats are allowed on the lake.
3. Beaver Lake
It’s definitely worth the 22-mile drive to fish in Beaver Lake. The massive watershed basin covers 1,186 miles with 449 miles of shoreline to angle from. Access to the lake on paved roads runs through 12 parks. Year-round full-service marinas provide fishing guides and other necessities. Those in the know say March is the best time to hook crappy in the shallows, and from April to May, stripers are plentiful.
November is a good time to reel in striped and hybrid striped bass. If you want to keep largemouth and smallmouth bass, they must be 15 inches or longer, and you are only allowed six daily. The daily limit for striped and hybrid bass is three, and they must be longer than 20 inches. You can keep 15 crappies, but those shorter than 10 inches must be released. The daily limit for walleye is four, and they must be 18 inches to keep.
4. Bella Vista Lakes
Nearby Bella Vista, just a short ten miles away, has seven well-stocked lakes teeming with fish. Loch Lomond, Lake Ann, Winsor, Avelon, Rayburn, Brittany, and Norwood are a fisherman’s paradise full of spotted, large, and smallmouth bass, bluegill, redear, crappie, catfish, trout, grass carp, walleye, and hybrid striped bass. The lakes are privately owned and restricted to the public, but guest passes are available to overnight visitors and holidaymakers.
