The Hyundai Elantra has been around for a while now, and it has proven extremely popular in every iteration. For good reason: the Elantra has always offered buyers a great ride at a great price, with good looks to boot. In this sense, the 2022 Hyundai Elantra is much like its predecessors.

Get to Know the New 2022 Hyundai Elantra

The Basics

Driving Experience

The Elantra is a compact sedan with a smooth ride on even the most uneven surfaces thanks to a recent chassis upgrade. At all trim levels, the Elantra is equipped with a 2.0L four-cylinder engine that produces 147hp, which goes through the front wheels and is moderated by a very efficient CVT gearbox.

Fuel Efficiency

The SE models manage an impressive 33/43 mpg city/highway, and the SEL and Limited models offer 31/41 mpg. The car is also available as a Hybrid, which can get up to an astonishing 53/56 mpg with the Blue trim, or 49/52 mpg with the Limited trim.

Pricing and Trim Levels

SE

For what you get, the Elantra represents excellent value for money. The SE model is available from $19,850 and is well-equipped with an 8in touchscreen, wireless AndroidAuto and Apple CarPlay, and a host of safety features including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian detection and Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist.

SEL

The SEL trim is still very reasonably priced at $21,100 and builds on the SE with a number of high-quality features. Notably, with the SEL you get 16in alloy wheels, a hands-free smart trunk release, and a proximity key with a push-button start, making it a very user-friendly car to own and drive.

Limited

The Limited trim starts at $25,600 and is the most luxurious trim available. Features include leather seats, dynamic voice recognition, a 10.25in touchscreen with wired AndroidAuto and Apple CarPlay connection, and LED headlights.

What’s new for 2022

Hyundai’s only addition for 2022 is the addition of the Elantra N. It is not yet available, but is expected to cost around $35,000 and come with a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine which produces 276hp. This should get it from 0-62mph in just 5.3s and offers a top speed of 155mph. If that isn’t enough power, it will also include a dual-clutch with a launch control function, and an N Grin Shift button on the steering wheel that provides a 10hp boost to the engine for 10-20s.

Space

Thanks to a clever design that makes the most of interior space, this is an area in which the Elantra really outshines its competitors. The Elantra has 14.2 cubic feet of cargo space (compared to the Mazda3’s 13.2 and the Toyota Corolla’s 13.1), and 38in of legroom in the rear seats (compared to 35.1 in the Mazda3 and 34.8 in the Toyota Corolla), giving a comfortable rear-seat experience to passengers of all sizes.

Safety

The safety features of the Elantra impressed the IIHS so much that it was awarded their Top Safety Pick recommendation when equipped with LED headlights. It was also rated five stars by the NHTSA, so you can be confident that you are driving one of the safest cars available today.

For anyone looking for a compact sedan in 2022, there are few better options than the Hyundai Elantra. Spacious, fun to drive, and wonderfully safe, it is suitable for families and young professionals alike. With the Elantra N on the horizon, it will also appeal to those looking for speed and power. Visit Crain Hyundai of Bentonville to book your test drive today.
